May 31 & Jun 1: Phoenix & Prescott Valley

We left Tucson and headed north on I-10 for Phoenix/Glendale where we lived from '78-'83.  There we had a very nice lunch at Applebee's and caught up with our friend Mindy Hansen.  Mindy worked with us in a church youth group when we lived here.
After lunch we headed down Bell road to 61st Ave and Big O's tire where Mindy's brother in law Rick works.  We have driven 4000 miles since Worcester and my last oil change so I had the oil changed there.  That put us very close to our old house in Glendale, so we did a drive by.  The tree that my friend Bruce and I planted is doing great.  Bruce advised me to dig a really deep hole and make a soap of peet moss around it.  Looks like he was right!
Elaine said make a left and lets drive down to Frans elementary school so I listed and turned left.  That had us driving past Bruce and Eileen's house around the corner.  And guess who we saw in the front yard?  Bruce!  So we stopped in for a brief visit and caught up on all our kids and jobs in 30 minutes!  Here is a photo of Elaine and I with Eileen and Bruce Grawburg.
And of course after leaving them we had to drive by Francesca's school where she went to kindergarten.
Driving north we got to Presscott Valley and Nancy and Will Blevin's house.  Will and I worked on the disk drive team at Sperry Flight Systems in Phoenix back in the '80s.  And Elaine and Nancy became good friends with our kids being the same age.  Will and I had a great morning teching out.  We updated our Garmin and then proceeded to successfully change the battery in Elaine's cell phone.  Will did a great job guiding me through it.
Here is Elaine and Nancy catching up on the back porch.
And a great view of their back yard which borders on a golf course.
We parked the rv in the driveway but stayed in there house which had a very comfortable guest suite.
For dinner Will barbecued some fantastic ribs and we were joined by Marie and John Boldt.  John also worked on the disk drive team.  At the end of the evening we all posed for a quick group photo.  It is amazing how easy it is to just sit and recount past memories and present day issues of the day. Can you feel the Bern!
